Safeguarding in the Curriculum
At Wellfield School, safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do. We believe that a safe, supportive and empowering environment enables every student to thrive, not only academically, but socially, emotionally and morally. Our curriculum is carefully designed so that safeguarding is woven through every subject and stage of a student’s personal development.
Across all departments, students explore themes such as emotional wellbeing, online safety, respect for diversity, consent and boundaries, critical thinking and physical safety. These themes are embedded deliberately and progressively, ensuring that safeguarding is not taught in isolation but reinforced through real-world context, discussion, creativity and reflection. This approach helps students build the knowledge, confidence and judgement they need to navigate an ever-changing world.
Our commitment to safeguarding is strengthened by the five core values that define Wellfield School:
-
Resilient: We support students in developing coping strategies, learning from challenges and building the confidence to make safe, informed choices.
-
Collaborative: We work together—students, staff, families and the wider community—to maintain a safe and nurturing environment built on shared responsibility and open communication.
-
Ambitious: We set high expectations for our students’ personal development, equipping them with the skills and awareness they need for future success and responsible citizenship.
-
Inclusive: Our curriculum ensures that every learner feels seen, represented and supported, including through teaching that reflects a diverse range of identities, experiences and protected characteristics.
-
Respectful: We foster a culture where all individuals are valued, differences are celebrated, and students learn to treat themselves and others with dignity.
By embedding safeguarding across the curriculum in this way, Wellfield School ensures that every student is not only protected but also empowered. Our students learn to contribute positively to their community, understand the world around them and uphold the values that make our school a safe, inclusive and aspirational place to learn.
